Here To Talk

HereToTalk Training is on a mission to provide safer conversations around mental health in the community by empowering individuals to confidently interact with those who are struggling with mental health issues, from low-level concerns to suicide prevention. Founded by Tom Chapman alongside Dr. Peter Aitkin, HereToTalk Training offers a non-clinical approach for individuals to effectively support others without the need to diagnose or prescribe treatment.

Dr. Peter Aitken brings a wealth of professional experience to HereToTalk Training, with a background in psychology and mental health. His expertise in the field adds a valuable perspective to the training program, ensuring that participants are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively support those in need.

In the UK, mental health is a pressing issue, with statistics showing that 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year. Additionally, suicide is a leading cause of death among young people, with around 6,000 suicides occurring in the UK each year. These alarming statistics highlight the importance of providing support and intervention for those struggling with mental health issues.

HereToTalk Training is built on four pillars: recognising the signs of mental health issues, asking thoughtful questions, listening with empathy and without judgement, and assisting individuals in finding the help they need. By focusing on these key principles, the training program aims to create a supportive and safe environment for both the individual in distress and the person offering support.

By empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge to have meaningful conversations about mental health, HereToTalk Training is making a positive impact in the community. Through their innovative approach, they are helping to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and providing valuable support to those in need. With mental health issues on the rise, initiatives like HereToTalk Training are essential in creating a more supportive and understanding society.
